Diamond Certifications

A diamond certificate is issued following an unbiased and professional examination to authenticate a diamond's attributes. The carat weight, colour and clarity are all validated, together with the diamond's exact measurements. Cut grades are also included for round brilliant cuts. Certificates are essential in determining or testifying a diamond's value. Diamonds sold through Sunny Diamonds have been graded by Gemological Institute of America (GIA), American Gem Society (AGS) or Hoge Raad voor Diamant (HRD) Antwerp.

Gemological Institute of America (GIA)

The Gemological Institute of America or GIA is a leading institution of gemology studies and research. The institute actually set the four Cs (Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat) as an international standard of quality check for diamonds.

American Gem Society (AGS)

The great American Gem Society was founded by a group of jewellers to prevent fraud and malpractices when it comes to jewellery buying. The group is going strong even today.

Hoge Raadvoor Diamant (HRD)

The HRD Antwerp diamond lab is the largest diamond lab in the world that issues reliable diamond certificates, grading and jewellery reports fully compliant with the rules for grading polished diamonds set by the International Diamond Council (IDC)

It is generally accepted by diamond industry professionals that the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) sets the standard when it comes to diamond grading. If your diamond is not graded by one of the 3 internationally recognized certificates listed above, chances are the grading stated is misleading and that you are purchasing something of lesser quality than indicated.

Diamonds under 30 cents are certified by Sunny Diamonds, and diamonds above 30 cents are certified by leading diamond certification organizations such as GIA, HRD or AGS.
